ParentsNext

ParentsNext supports parents of young children to prepare for work.

Impact Communities delivers ParentsNext in southern Tasmania.

Your best plan for the future

At ParentsNext we support your plan to prepare for future study or employment.

The journey starts with exploring your strengths and interests, as well as any areas that you’d like to improve. We help you set goals and step-by-step actions to achieve your best future, in life and in work.

How we help

Our goal is that every parent is able to make decisions about their future, and has achievable actions to start training, study or work. Everything will be clearly set out in a way that’s easy to follow in your Pathway Plan.

We’ve been supporting families in Southern Tasmania for more than 30 years, so we can offer activities that are connected to your local community. This could be self-paced learning, taking part in parents’ groups, volunteering with local community organisations, enrolling in a training course, trying out some work experience, or getting straight into job applications. The choice is yours, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. And if you need a helping hand with things like housing, mental health, childcare or family violence, we can connect you with experts in these areas.

If taking part in ParentsNext is a requirement to receive your Parenting Payment, we’ll make sure the activity meets your needs and we’ll help you achieve it.

Working with you

As a parent, your time is limited, so we’ll make sure our meetings are at a time and place that works for you. At your first appointment you’ll meet your ParentsNext mentor, who’ll explain what the program is all about and provide a direct point of contact.

Once your plan is set, we’ll meet face-to-face with you at least once every three months, to see how you’re going with achieving your goals. In between face-to-face meetings we’ll stay in touch by phone, text or email – you get to choose the method that works best for you.

Our aim is for ParentsNext to be guided by parents. We work with Parent Advisory Groups, who give us advice on the best ways to help parents move into education and jobs. If you’d like to join an advisory group, let one of our mentors know – this could even be one of your activities to help build work skills.

Our commitment to access

If you identify as Indigenous, ParentsNext is designed to ensure Indigenous people receive cultural supports, including activities with Indigenous organisations. Our mentors are trained to work with people from culturally diverse backgrounds and ParentsNext is accessible to people with disabilities.
